Street Crime in Rio de Janeiro Fell By 13.6 Percent in 2010

When

Details

In an analysis released today from Rio de Janeiro-based NGO Rio Como Vamos (RCV) reports that petty crime in the city dropped by 13.6 percent in 2010. The RCV report cites public statistics from Rio's Institute of Public Security. The Copacabana region of Rio registered the highest drop in crime at 32.2 percent. Santa Teresa, by comparison, saw an increase in the same period by 39.5 percent. RCV cites an inadequacy in public health resources and social tools—and an increase in crack cocaine usage by minors—as contributing factors to street crime.

Rio Como Vamos also enclosed supporting charts and graphs to document this overall reduction last year.
