At 12:15 am (Eastern) today, the Instituto Federal Electoral (Federal Electoral Institute—IFE) announced the results of its quick count for the next president of Mexico. According to IFE President Leonardo Valdés, Enrique Peña Nieto (Partido Revolucionario Institucional—PRI) received between 37.93 and 38.55 percent—an average of 38.24 percent—of the vote.

Behind Peña Nieto, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (Partido de la Revolución Democrática—PRD) secured between 30.90 and 31.86 percent—an average of 31.80 percent—of the vote. Josefina Vázquez Mota (Partido Acción Nacional—PAN) followed the top-two finishers with between 25.10 and 26.03 percent—an average of 25.56 percent.

According to the quick count, which is an official estimation of the IFE, Peña Nieto and López Obrador are separated by 6.86 percent. The quick count has a margin of error of +/- 0.5 percent, and is based on a sample counting of 7,500 voting boxes around the country.

The legal results will be available by Wednesday once the ballots are counted from each polling station.
