A crackdown on anti-government protests in Nicaragua has left more than 200 people dead since April. How far is President Daniel Ortega willing to go to keep control? In this episode of “Deep South,” journalist John Otis reports from Managua on the major factors behind recent unrest, and says that an unprecedented coalition of students, activists and everyday people has taken shape to demand Ortega’s resignation. But that doesn’t mean the crisis will end soon. “Ortega is a very savvy politician,” Otis said. “He’d be willing to let the rest of Nicaragua burn down if he could hang on to power.”
