Izabella Teixeira

Izabella Teixeira has served as Brazil’s minister of the environment since 2010. A biologist and Ph.D in environmental planning, minister Teixeira is a career employee of the Brazilian institute for Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA), which she joined in 1984 as an environmental analyst. Throughout her nearly three decades of service, she has held a number of diffferent managing positions at IBAMA, as well as at the Ministry of the Environment and the state government of Rio de Janeiro. From 2007 to 2008, Minister Teixeira was the vice secretary of the environment of Rio de Janeiro, until she was nominated to serve as the vice minister of the environment,. She was the first appointed minister of the environment in 2010, and reappointed under the new leadership in 2011.
